Early in 2008, Seward Redesign, Seward Neighborhood Group, and Seward Civic and Commerce Association launched a community-driven process to re-envision the future of Franklin Avenue from the Franklin LRT station to the Mississippi River.
The resulting “Vision for Franklin Avenue” is now posted for your review. There’s some pretty interesting stuff in there, like the playful sample vignette above that envisions strategies for improving crossing, wayfinding, greening and biking at Franklin and 25th.
There are three upcoming opportunities to discuss the plan:
- SNG Community Development Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 12th @ 7pm, Matthews Park Center.
- Redesign Development Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 27th @ 8:30am, Redesign offices, 2619 E Franklin.
- A larger community gathering to discuss the plan, time and date TBD.

Our friend Karl Frankowski’s prototyping video got picked up by Core77 and BoingBoing.
Industrial design, baby. Awesome.
This is one of the posters I picked up at Saturday night’s Artcrank event. [photo]
It’s called “Get There Together” and it’s by local graphic designer Aleks Stancevic. It’s a London Underground inspired map of the Twin Cities (printed on a beautiful waterproof paper) that puts all the emphasis on bike routes. Awesome work Aleks.
It also reminded me about Cyclopath, a totally amazing bike route wiki-map for getting around the Twin Cities. It’s basically Google Maps for bikes and totally deserves more attention.

Apparently I’m not the only one angry about Wisconsin’s new logo. (Thanks to my lawyer friend Amanda for the tip!)
