Neuromancer the movie: Rumors & speculation from across the web
I’ve had some fun tracking this story as it develops, shades of Pattern Recognition even.
ITEM ONE: Straight from William Gibson himself - back in May when it was first leaked that Kahn might come on to direct:
Word from the Croisette has some of our posters gnashing their teeth at the possibility that someone who’s made Britney vids might attempt a feature film of Neuromancer.
Myself, I’ll be willing to entertain the idea that Neuromancer is really “headed for the big screen” when I’m watching it being shot
As the old saying goes, I’ll believe it when I see it.
This was in a blog post titled: I’VE FORGOTTEN MORE NEUROMANCER FILM DEALS THAN YOU’VE EVER HEARD OF.
ITEM TWO: There are two sets of plot synopsis floating around out there in the ether. The first one, from the production company itself is, well… horrible.
Based on William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel, Hayden Christensen stars as Cage, a petty future Tokyo thief whose trade is jacking his brain directly into computer systems. When this skill is taken away from him, it seems his life is destined to end in an explosion of violence and drugs… until the mysterious Armitage offers redemption – at a price. Revelation follows revelation as Cage discovers that no one is in control of his or her own destiny and a new form of sentient technology is taking over. It’s down to Cage to face Neuromancer and do something he never has before: make the right choice. [via]
As if the writing isn’t bad enough, please note that the main characters name is Case, not Cage. Wow. This one, from Production Charts, is hardly better:
Based on William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel “Neuromancer”. Case was the hottest computer cowboy cruising the information superhighway—jacking his consciousness into cyberspace, soaring through tactile lattices of data and logic, rustling encoded secrets for anyone with the money to buy his skills. Then he double-crossed the wrong people, who caught up with him in a big way—and burned the talent out of his brain, micron by micron. Banished from cyberspace, trapped in the meat of his physical body, Case courted death in the high-tech underworld. Until a shadowy conspiracy offered him a second chance—and a cure—for a price… [via]
ITEM THREE: Finally, there is some buzz coming from the WG Forums that Gibson might be regaining the rights to Neuromancer shortly. Like in a matter of weeks. Key word here is buzz.
Stay tuned for more as it happens.
